About Us

We've been teaching creative skills since 2011, and we've learned one thing: most people don't lack talent. They lack permission to try. That's what we're here for. Apex Training sits in Nelspruit, but our students come from all over — some drive hours to sit in our studio, others join us online. We teach photography, design, video, writing. The practical stuff. Not theory you'll forget next week, but skills you'll actually use. Our instructors aren't celebrities or gatekeepers. They're working professionals who remember what it's like to be stuck.

Over time, we’ve built a reputation for reliability, quality, and clear communication. We treat each project as a partnership and aim for outcomes that last.

🎯

Our Mission

Teach creative skills without the pretense. We break down intimidating subjects into manageable steps. Every person who walks through our door gets genuine feedback and real-world techniques. No fluff. No unnecessary jargon. Just honest instruction from people who do this work every single day.

🧩

Our Vision

A world where creative confidence isn't reserved for "naturally talented" people. We're building that by offering affordable, practical training that respects your time and intelligence. In five years, we want Apex to be the obvious choice for anyone serious about learning a creative skill.

Marcus Chen

Founder & Photography Lead

Shot commercially for 18 years before starting Apex. Still works on client projects. Teaches because he'd rather spend time with eager learners than endure another corporate shoot.

Design Director

Brand designer by day, instructor by evening. Built design programs from scratch here. Believes constraint breeds creativity. Won't let you use Comic Sans, but she'll explain why.

Video & Production

Documentary filmmaker who somehow ended up loving teaching more than production. Makes complex editing concepts feel obvious. Former student became staff member.

Our Story

Started in 2011 by two working photographers frustrated with online tutorials. They rented a small room and taught six people their first photography workshop. Word spread. By 2015, we'd moved to a proper studio and added design and video courses. The pandemic pushed us online in 2020 — turned out to be smart. Now we run 47 classes monthly across both formats. We've trained roughly 3,200 people. Some became professionals. Most just became better at something they love.

Our Core Values

The principles that guide everything we do

Honesty

We tell you what works and what doesn't. No sugar-coating, no false promises. You'll get genuine feedback because that's how you actually improve.

Accessibility

Creative skills shouldn't cost a fortune or require you to relocate. Our fees are fair. Our schedule works around real life. We're in Nelspruit, but we're online too.

Practical Focus

Theory has its place. But you're here to make things. Every lesson ends with you actually doing the work, not just hearing about it.

Community

Students aren't isolated. They learn alongside others, share work, get feedback from real people. The best growth happens when you're part of something.
